James Naismith
This photograph of James Naismith was taken at the University of Kansas between 1920 and 1930. The inventor of basketball, Naismith brought the new game with him in 1898 when he became a KU professor and the school's first basketball coach. Under his direction and guidance, KU went on to develop one of the nation's most storied college basketball programs. Naismith was named among the top 25 notable Kansans in 2011. From the collections of the Kansas Historical Society, the print was produced for the Kansas Historical Foundation.
