Dwight D. Eisenhower
This photograph features General Dwight D. Eisenhower as Supreme Allied Commander in 1944. Eisenhower left his closed staff car behind because of the mud and boarded a jeep to start a tour of the European front on November 16, 1944. Eisenhower grew up in Abilene, Kansas, and went on to become the 34th President of the United States in 1951. He served two terms. Eisenhower was named the first among 25 notable Kansans in 2011. From the collections of the Kansas Historical Society, the print was produced for the Kansas Historical Foundation.
