Snake Tribe Boy
This carte-de-visite shows Pete Shirley sleeping with his dog, circa 1868. Shirley was a member of the Snake Indian tribe, a name given to the Northern Paiute, Bannock, and Shoshone people. The boy was seven years old when photographer A. P. Trott shot the image in Junction City, Kansas. From the collections of the Kansas Historical Society, the print was produced for the Kansas Historical Foundation.
