Harvesting Pumpkins
This exaggerated postcard from 1909 shows farmers hauling three over-sized pumpkins on a horse-drawn wagon. Considered western humor, exaggerated postcards were popular at the beginning of the 20th century, especially so in the Great Plains. Their larger-than-life illustrations helped to show a sense of humor in promoting the state’s advantages and in dealing with disaster. From the collections of the Kansas Historical Society, the print was produced for the Kansas Historical Foundation.
