Poster: Kansas Capitol Curry Murals
John Steuart Curry created the iconic mural of Tragic Prelude on the second floor east wing of the Kansas State Capitol. The mural wraps from the east wall to the north wall and includes the Conquistador, the Plainsman, and John Brown. At the center of the antislavery movement in Kansas Territory before the Civil War, this mural is rich in symbolism with Brown standing amid the impending winds of war. Considered among Curry’s best, the work was completed around 1941.
